nomadic Tree Roots was born out of a passion to serve others. Each of us have the opportunity to make a lasting impression at each place we pause. It is my hope that what I do and my way of being will do just that.
I am an experienced social justice and antiracist trainer both in the public and private sectors. I firmly believe in living a life of gratitude and service to others. With compassion, and gentleness, I speak truth to power in predominantly white spaces. My unique method of interrogating and interrupting white supremacy, helps others see and understand how whiteness permeates every public institution. To understand this, I design trainings specific to the organization with which I work. This method allows for deep dives into the “why” behind the organizational structure to create a sustainable model that will authentically reshape the climate and culture of the organization. This is an internal process that takes time and dedication. It is not intended to occur overnight. It takes self-discovery and dedication. White bodied persons need to hold themselves accountable to make this lasting change within themselves and the spaces that they enter.
I have a M.Ed, with over 25 years of experience as an educator, trainer and facilitator. I am unapologetic about dismantling the idea of whiteness when I interact with others, lead trainings and speak truth to power. I am a certified Transformative/Restorative Justice trainer, a certified Crisis Prevention Institute trainer and lead trainings on Critical whiteness, Systemic Racism in K-12 Education, white Privilege, white Plausible Deniability, De-centering whiteness and Toxic Masculinity. I am fluent in the application of Special Education Law and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as well as an expert in the field of Emotional/Behavioral Disorders in the education setting. I approach each day with a servant’s heart seeking to help others see and better understand the child behind the behavior and/or special education label.
If you are white in the United States, you have benefited from or perpetuated racism, either unknowingly or knowingly, because we have always controlled the narrative and whiteness is always centered in this country. I present and Identify as white, and I am responsible. I either interrogate and interrupt racist systems, or I am part of these oppressive and abusive systems that subjugate and marginalize entire populations of people. I live in a society where racism is everyday. It shows up in every established institution. When people say that our systems are broken, I strongly disagree. These systems were designed by people who look like me and for the exclusive benefit of people who identify the same as I do. When I use the pronoun “we,” I am referring to persons who present and identify as I do-a white bodied person.
I am responsible.
My job as a white-bodied person is to speak truth to power and power structures and to share these truths with others. We have created the unjust and it is our responsibility to change the very systems that we benefit from in order for all persons to have the exclusive access we enjoy and benefit directly from.
I am responsible.
If I am not actively speaking truth to power and power structures, I am perpetuating the racist systems and structures that have given me privilege and preferred treatment for my entire life. We do this work because we need to be in just-relationship. We do this work because we are responsible for generations of harm and we must correct for the future.
